Valletta: A walking tour in Malta's Capital City - 2

Valletta, built by the knights of St John, has been our capital since the second half of the 16th century. The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage City and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1980 under criteria (i) and (vi). Its monuments are protected on the national level by an Antiquities (Protection) Act of 1925. An ideal fortified town, founded in the XVlth century by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Valletta has undergone very little alteration in its urban fabric and its architecture. A great number of important monuments are preserved, among which the famous Auberges of each language: 320 historical monuments within 55 hectares

In this tour of the World Heritage City of Valletta, we will see the most important sights, including the main gate, Parliament, Upper Barracca gardens, Prime Minister’s office (Auberge De Castille) plus a few other auberge’s (houses where the knights used to live), the building that used to house Napoleon, the main square and more! We will also visit St John’s co-cathedral, the baroque masterpiece that also hosts two Caravaggio’s paintings. We speak about bygone times and also about life in Valletta today.

Following a leisurely walk around the City, we will enjoy lunch together.
